Dal 1° Maggio al 31 Ottobre Milano ospiterà il più grande evento mai realizzato sull’alimentazione e la nutrizione, dedicando a questo tema un’area espositiva della grandezza di 1,1 milioni di metri quadri situata in zona Rho – fiera. La partecipazione alla Esposizione Universale è spropositata: più di 140 Paesi e Organizzazioni internazionali coinvolti per una totale del 94% della popolazione mondiale. Il Bel Paese si appresta così ad accogliere oltre 20 milioni di visitatori da tutto il mondo, a cui saranno proposti interrogativi anche di vita quotidiana: si stima che la metà del cibo prodotto nel mondo finisca nella spazzatura per l’ammontare complessivo di circa due miliardi di tonnellate, in gran parte ancora commestibile, per una risultante di un miliardo di persone al mondo che non ha accesso a sufficienti risorse alimentari. Il Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition non esita ad affermare che solo in Italia finiscono tra i rifiuti dai 10 ai 20 milioni di tonnellate di prodotti alimentari all’anno, per un valore di circa 37 miliardi di euro. Cibo che basterebbe a sfamare, secondo la Coldiretti, circa 44 milioni di persone. Probabilmente un così grande evento sulle abitudini alimentari si fa ancor più necessaria ed opportuna se, unitamente ai dati sullo spreco di risorse, si analizzano quelli relativi ai disturbi alimentari: 2 milioni di giovani soffrono di anoressia o bulimia, di cui il 40% tra i 15 e i 19 anni secondo la Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità, assicurando così a queste malattie il secondo posto (dopo gli incidenti stradali) fra le cause di morte dei nostri giovani, soprattutto ragazze adolescenti (dati SIMA, Società Italiana di Medicina dell’Adolescenza). L’evento stesso è apparso essere un obiettivo appetibile per chi vuole coltivare i propri interessi a danno della società. Sono state svolte diverse inchieste per portare allo scoperto assegnazioni di appalti non avvenute nella legalità, che invece vuole essere garantita da un’amministrazione trasparente. Circa settanta le interdittive antimafia rilasciate dal prefetto di Milano, molte delle quali confermate. Il risultato è stato il blocco di alcuni cantieri, che inevitabilmente ha causato ritardi e alterato l’immagine nel nostro Paese di fronte al mondo. Gli scandali emersi non hanno fermato l’impegno di cittadini volenterosi non tentati da un arricchimento facile e illecito. Siamo alla continua ricerca della verità, poiché “non di solo pane vive l’uomo”. Alcuni valori come quello della vita e del suo nutrimento, il rispetto della prossimo e del pianeta ci vengono ricordati dall’evento, che si prefigge di elaborare linee guida e politiche concrete per il perseguimento di essi. La Carta di Milano ne è un esempio e altri ancora saranno i risultati, sullo sfondo di politiche di equità e di green-economy, che verranno raggiunti grazie alle conoscenze tecniche moderne, arricchite dalla partecipazione e dalla creatività di diverse culture. La città sarà lo scenario di un intreccio di relazioni e la gioia della convivialità sarà palpabile. Con entusiasmo noi giovani ci apprestiamo all’esposizione universale, testimoni partecipi della costruzione di un futuro basato su uno sviluppo equo e sostenibile.
